*the evolution of our international jai bhim community
i traveled for 2 weeks in june to make friends with the jai bhim network, a community of gypsy buddhists based in sajokaza, northeast, hungary. lots of news and fotos from the visit on our facebook page. i am also writing a more elaborate report, which will be up on the website in over the next week. i left feeling very inspired by the social justice work happening in this community, particularly their educational projects. dr. ambedkar's message of "educate, agitate, organize" is at the heart of their work. we will be collaborating with them, long-distance on their english-language curriculum for ambedkar high school in the village of hegymeg, as well as for their two other school sites, in sajokaza and in ozd. contact us to learn more about this english language program: ann@jaibhiminternational.org
jai bhim international will be connecting global friends, to support the jai bhim movement in hungary. we are building a team of volunteers to edit and translate the web postings for the jai bhim network. join our international volunteer team: ann@jaibhiminternational.org
here in san francisco we are organizing to celebrate dr. ambedkar's october 16th conversion to buddhism, during the whole month of october. we will be hosting local events that include an indian film night and a bhangra party at the sf buddhist center. we will also be leading an evening of buddhist practice to celebrate the diksha bhumi, the great mass conversion. we invite our jai bhim friends around the world to celebrate october as ambedkar month with us, and send us fotos and video to share on the website and facebook page.
this year our main goals have been to build community at a local level, with monthly happy hours and with our plans for our october ambedkar month festivities. on a global level we are making friends on our facebook page, making connections with buddhist centers across the fwbo and the tbmsg, and supporting to the good work happening in hungary and india.
our annual appeal will be in the thanksgiving season, november 2009. please help us spread the word then, encouraging friends and family to invest in our projects. jai bhim!
