our 2008 overhead costs

this summer, while housesitting for our dear friend erin, we began creating our new non-profit, jai bhim international. erin's dog maggie was our spirit animal, encouraging us as we pored through the nolo book and filed applications, giving gentle reminders every few hours to get off the computer and take her out for some fresh air. maggie is our advisor from the animal kingdom!

it takes a lot of time, a lot of concentration, and a fair amount of money to get a non-profit off the ground. we are all volunteers on our board, and all the legal, financial, technological and organizational advice we have received has been pro bono. still, there are expenses.

our initial fundraising parties have been fun and successful, bringing in $408. we are planning more events to connect people with our work and gather more seed money to begin our first few projects. in november we will be appealing directly to friends to invest in our work.

in the name of radical transparency we thought we would share with our supporters exactly how much money we have spent getting the non-profit together. we invite you to adopt some of our overhead costs in san francisco, so that we may focus on starting up our projects in india before the end of 2008. we have managed to do all of our initial work for a budget of under $750. and our travel costs to india this year, to begin our initial projects, will be $2,224.73.

invest financially in our work and join the caste-free generation. all our overhead supporters will a special thank-you on an overhead supporters page on our website. we'd like to post your foto and your testimonial , one line that completes the sentence: "i support a caste-free generation because..."

may all beings be happy, well, and free of suffereing.

to invest in our work, please DONATE above or send your check for Jai Bhim International to:
